In the first semester student chooses a master seminar from the selection pool specified in the course syllabus (recommended solution) or from the department-wide selection pool and follows the course until the end of the study.

The first year of the program includes elective courses in the form of modules, each with 120 hours of instruction. During the first year of study, students are required to complete two modules, totaling 240 hours / 24 ECTS. The content of the elective courses covers more detailed and specialized issues related to contemporary criticism.

In the first semester, students choose two of the three modules, each comprising 120 hours, and follow them for the whole year. A single grade is awarded for the entire module, which is the average of the grades obtained in the individual parts of the module.

The individual modules consist of the following parts:

• Module 1: Literary Criticism – 1) History of Literary Criticism; 2) Contemporary Literary Life; 3) Critical Debates. Workshops; 4) Editorial workshops
• Module 2: Popular culture – 1) Independent culture; 2) Television and contemporary life; 3) Popular literature; 4) Popular music
• Module 3: Criticism of visual and performing arts – 1) Art criticism/aesthetics; 2) Theater criticism; 3) TV series criticism; 4) Video game criticism

The list of parts that make up a given module in a given academic year is subject to change and is published each time on the website of the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University.

Foreign language - to be chosen - supported by JCJ. It is a 60-hour modern foreign language course with an exam at least at B2+ level. The study program for the second year includes an internship worth 1 ECTS (30 h), which can be completed in the winter or summer semester. It is also possible to complete it in the first year.

The content of the elective subjects covers more detailed and specialized issues related to Contemporary Criticism.

In the third semester, students choose one of two modules and follow it for the whole year. A single grade is awarded for the entire module, which is the average of the grades obtained in the individual parts of the module.

The individual modules during the second year consist of the following parts:

• Module 1: Critical trajectories – 1) Genealogies of contemporary feminism; 2) Literary traditions and interpretations of contemporary literature; 3) Conceptualizations; 4) Revolutions
• Module 2: Circulation and institutions of culture – 1) Project activities in culture. Workshops; 2) Criticism and social media. Promotional strategies; 3) Introduction to management in the cultural sector; 4) The publishing market in practice
